Coastal Magnet utilizes cutting-edge software and analytic techniques to perform sophisticated analysis of coastal, marine and hydrologic processes. Our modeling staff is well versed in a variety of 1D, 2D and 3D models for use in simulating existing conditions and predicting future conditions with and without project scenarios to aid in the plan formulation and design development phases of our clients.

Several of our key personnel are on the forefront of modeling of a wide variety of coastal, estuarine, and riverine processes including wave dynamics, coastal circulation, storm surge/inundation, tidal hydraulics and flushing, coastal sediment transport, shoreline change/erosion rates, prediction of coastal restoration project performance, flow regime in rivers/canals, and canal conveyance. Our top scientists and engineers have worked extensively on estuarine systems and interior waterways, applying numerical models for design optimization and recommending alternatives for engineering design. We have experience in water quality sampling, hydrogeological investigation, and soil analyses. We have GIS capabilities that allow for efficient set up and execution.
We have acquired and/or developed a variety of models or software programs to facilitate our analysis of coastal processes. At the present time, no one model or type of model can be sufficiently general to apply to all situations and engineering applications. Each application depends on a particular project concern and the suitability of available software to address the coastal engineering project issues. For wave studies we have utilized USACE’s STWAVE and CMS-Wave models. For coastal circulation and storm surge studies we have applied USACE’s ADCIRC and CMS-Flow models. For sediment transport modeling, we have coupled USACE’s CMS-Flow and CMS-Wave models and utilized DHI’s MIKE21 and Deltares’ Delft3D models. For riverine flow and sediment transport studies, we have applied USACE’s RMA2, RMA4, HEC-RAS, and FESWMS models. For beach erosion/accretion and shoreline change applications, we have utilized USACE’s SBEACH and GENESIS models.
